Summer Reading List

Jun 16, 2014 | KCFS News

Dear Parents:

The true mark of an educated mind is its expansiveness as well as its intellectual curiosity. There are no more vital enterprises in this regard than the ability to read and write well. As an institution whose primary mission is to prepare students for four-year undergraduate institutions, it is incumbent upon us to do all that we can to enlarge the intellectual horizons of our students.

With this in mind, Kennedy Catholic High School has approved a mandatory summer reading program for our students. The selections included here will enable our students to better prepare for their academic studies in the fall. A program such as this is also a reminder to our students that education and enrichment is a yearlong enterprise.

Please click here to see the reading list for each grade level.

Your son or daughter is requested to choose a book from this list and to annotate the text. In addition, students may wish to take notes that focus on character, theme, plot, setting, point of view, use of language, and symbolism. The form at the end of above list must be completed, and students will take a test and/or write an essay on each work during the week of September 1“.

We are aware that this is the first summer that we have required summer reading, and so we understand that there may be questions.

If you have any questions, please contact us.

Sincerely,
Heidi Patterson
